We had a nice rest day in Key West including some well deserved mojitos. We did some sightseeing, visited some nice restaurants, and made a quick stop by the local bike shop to buy some extra tubes. After two nights it was time to head back and guess what, the freaking wind had changed direction. We were facing two days of pure head wind. Luckily it wasn’t as warm as the other days so even though the wind was stronger it didn’t feel as tough as the other days. Also, we had a big breakfast and lunch, which made the trip back feel effortless. Not even a flat could stop us at this point.
When we reached Travernier we stopped for a quick break at a local beer brewery, Florida Keys Brewing Co. Very nice beer! We arrived to Key Largo, our destination, feeling like we could go twice as far. We also stopped to try the famous Key Lime Pie, highly recommended! But no day is completed without yet another flat.
The second day on our way back also started with a big breakfast, by this point we had learned our lesson. The ride felt just like the day before, effortless with some spiky legs. Without the intense heat and cramps we could really enjoy the ride and the views. We stopped for lunch at a nice Latino restaurant. After that, since we had plenty of time, we proceeded in a nice and chill tempo all the way to Miami Beach, where we would spend our remaining days before heading back to Sweden.
Miami was nice. Did some biking around town, went to the beach and in general just relaxed. I can recommend to visit Wynwood, a district with a lot of beautiful street art and graffiti.
We also had time for some nice drinks and food. There is one restaurant I could definitely recommend, Bolivar, a great place if you are into the Latin cuisine. Try their Ceviche and Lomo Saltado, tastes like heaven!
After a few days in Miami it was time to say goodbye to the sunshine state. All in all it was a pleasant trip with many highs and no lows (cramp is part of the game in not considered as a low). I’m already looking forward to the next trip!
